Phonics
We teach phonics to the children through an adaptation of the Letters and Sounds Program of Study.
Our children receive daily sessions where they will engage in practical and physical activities that will introduced them to new sounds, review and practice prior sounds and develop their ability to sight read and spell non decodable words.
Children in Year 1 will take the statutory Phonics Screening check in the Summer Term, which consists of 40 words that enable the children to demonstrate their ability to decode words using the sounds learnt throughout the 6 phases of Letters and Sounds. We hold regular parent sessions where the staff and children share learning ideas to support home learning.
